Omnitrol Networks targets Central Texas manufacturers with JBPrice partnership. MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (March 20, 2009) – Omnitrol Networks has entered a strategic agreement with San Antonio-based JBPrice. The arrangement is aimed at bringing competitive advantage and manufacturing agility to Central Texas, the nation’s second largest manufacturing center. Omnitrol Networks provides what it calls “intelligent edge” solutions for manufacturing, which integrate wireless, RFID and sensor technologies on a single network. JBPrice will focus on Omnitrol’s real-time Work in Process (WIP) visibility solution. WIP visibility is a baseline requirement in lean and agile manufacturing.
“We believe that the Omnitrol solution meets our customer’s requirements for low cost, ease of installation and use, and robust dependability in difficult environments” said Ben Price, owner of JBPrice. Central Texas is home to manufacturers of all sizes and verticals, including aerospace; medical devices; capital equipment; and heavy machinery, among others. Price has observed the challenges and needs of manufacturers in the region first hand, and believes that in the current climate, they require short-term and measurable results. “Traditionally, middleware has been the stumbling block for many clients in the adoption of [network solutions],“ said Price. “Multiple vendors, platforms and data formats, high levels of required customization, and limited integration make what should be a straight-forward task into expensive, long-term, incomplete projects.” Omnitrol Networks’ family of flexible solutions eliminates technology-dependent middleware and back-end application integration, in favor of the device- and platform-agnostic OMNITROL Appliance. Legacy sensors such as barcode and PLC are easily integrated with RF and UWB sensors, all of which flow into a real-time feedback loop for process control. Further, the OMNITROL Appliance software-based engine implements business rules and provides real-time dashboards and reports (connecting “shop floor to shopfloor” and “shop floor to top floor”). Finally, Omnitrol offers connectors that integrate the appliance (without lengthy customization) with such ERP systems as SAP and Oracle.
Open-loop connectivity for competitive advantage An Omnitrol Network creates visibility between multiple sites, or multiple business partners, in a single infrastructure. That, Price describes, is the “holy grail” in a globally outsourced business climate—particularly in Texas with its strong base of contract manufacturers. Peer-to-peer visibility is a strong differentiator among contract manufacturers, and strongly desired by OEMs which require visibility into outsourced operations.
On the ground in Central Texas
Omnitrol Networks believes it has found just the right partner for the Central Texas region. “JBPrice brings exceptional expertise, which combined with our proven EPC-global asset tracking and traceability solution, will result in a powerful resource for industries in Texas seeking to solve and scale the challenges faced in maintaining complete traceability of their assets”, notes Ravi Rishy-Maharaj, vice-president of business development at Omnitrol Networks.
“Customer awareness and education on the Omnitrol Networks product line are integral to our business,” adds Rishy-Maharaj. The company strives to educate manufacturers on the value and benefits of Omnitrol solutions through video, trade shows, presentations and webinars, and “feet on the street” presence is vital to reaching Central Texas. “With the JBPrice agreement, customers in Central Texas will now have another option for exploring what an Omnitrol solution can do,” says Rishy-Maharaj.

Omnitrol Networks bolsters RFID edge application software, releases industry’s smallest middleware appliance solution Market requires flexible scaled-to-fit solutions to ease deployment, says Omnitrol Mountain View, CA – November 5,2008 – Omnitrol Networks announced immediate availability of a new release of its flagship software platform, Edge Application and Services Engine (EASETM) version 2.1. The company also announced the release of the OMNITROL-A (the Nano), the industry’s smallest middleware appliance for RFID and sensor networks. The releases support Omnitrol Networks' goals of reducing the costs and complexity of RFID deployments, and offering robust but lower costs solutions for large-scale deployments. "Companies are feeling the pressure to reduce costs, automate processes and improve quality, all in the face of reduced demand and increased competition," says David Orain Vice-President Marketing at Omnitrol Networks. "So returns on investment and total cost of ownership will see higher scrutiny, and that's sparking some real innovation." Flexible Middleware RFID middleware must "plug and play" with more than one RF frequency or technology, and require less customization. Omnitrol Networks has added new features to its EASE middleware that make business process implementation completely independent of the RF technologies such as HF, UHF, UWB and Wi-Fi. The new software release includes: - New version of the OMNITROL Service Development Kit for quicker development of customer-defined business processes.
- New enhanced Emulator to simulate sensors and RFID devices to develop, test, validate and monitor process workflow implementation more rapidly.
- Integration with new databases and ERP applications that enables easier collaboration with customer legacy environments.
- Support for OMNITROL-M and OMNITROL-A (the Nano) appliances.
"All of this reduces the costs of developing, deploying and maintaining RFID and sensor-based software solutions," says David Orain. "We've seen ratios of services to license costs over 6 to 1, which brings the project total price too high and slows down the deployment of RFID solutions. Scaled-to-fit Application Network Appliance Similarly, Omnitrol Networks concluded that middleware appliances must be scaled to suit the deployment. Omnitrol Networks has developed the OMNITROL Nano, which packs the same powerful EASE software as the OMNITROL Appliance, but suited for smaller RFID deployments requiring a limited number of readers or sensors. The new appliance is about a third the size of 1U rack-mountable server, and consumes less than 30 Watts, which is equivalent to an energy saving light bulb. The OMNITROL Nano is both a plug-and-play solution, and practically plug-and-forget. A manufacturing company can have a complete OMNITROL-based track and trace solution up and running in less than 60 minutes, and need only maintain it when they add more sensors. The OMNITROL Nano is suitable for all industrial automation environments, includes serial interfaces, and is fanless with absolutely no moving parts. "RFID deployments routinely get stuck in the pilot mode," says David Orain, "because there are simply too many variables. Customers have different requirements based on their environment or business goals, but were forced to make do with 'one size fits all' software and equipment, and abandon the deployments out of frustration. We want to see them get a return on those investments, and scale it up easily when they're ready to do so." About Omnitrol Networks, Inc. Omnitrol Networks, Ahearn & Soper partner to deliver Auto-ID solutions to Canadian market. MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (September 10, 2008) – Omnitrol Networks announced today that it has entered a strategic teaming agreement with Canada’s market leading Auto-ID integrator Ahearn & Soper. “With this agreement we intend to offer leading edge, highly cost-effective deployments of RFID and Barcode based Auto-ID solutions to Canadian enterprises”, said Paul Pope, Vice President and General Manager at Ahearn & Soper. The partnership will target key accounts, leveraging Ahearn & Soper’s experience in the Canadian market, and Omnitrol Networks’ real-time WIP visibility and EPC Global track and trace solution. “The combination will greatly reduce the cost and complexity, and duration of Auto-ID implementations,” says Ravi Rishy-Maharaj, vice-president of business development at Omnitrol Networks. “RFID based projects unfortunately fall into perpetual design paralysis due to implementation complexities from legacy backend and middleware systems, and never get beyond the pilot stage. Both Ahearn and Omnitrol believe that by deploying real-time intelligence on the plant-floor such paralysis is unnecessary and unacceptable.” Ahearn & Soper has assembled a team of heavyweights in the Canadian Auto-ID industry, including some of the largest deployment initiatives to date. Combining Ahearn’s expertise and customer relationships with Omnitrol Networks RFID based Auto-ID solution creates a winning team to deliver solutions in asset tracking and work-in-process visibility with real-time reporting and alerts. "Our partnership with a leader like Ahearn & Soper brings significant experience and market knowledge to our team," says Rishy-Maharaj. "In addition, Ahearn’s pristine reputation and established customer base will enable substantial growth for our joint solutions in the Canadian Auto-ID industry.” For nearly 30 years, Ahearn & Soper has provided reliable Auto-ID and Data Capture products and solutions to the top Canadian companies and are ranked 43rd in the Top-100 solution providers in 2008 by IT Business, Canada. In return, Omnitrol Networks brings versatility in Auto ID technologies to the partnership. “Most middleware is limited, requires extensive customization making it difficult for use to integrators like us,” says Paul Pope, vice-president and general manager at Ahearn & Soper. “They don’t support all the various active and passive RFID technologies or don’t integrate with barcode legacy systems. The OMNITROL supports not only all types of wireless, barcode and RFID technologies, but also sensors and PLC systems simplifying integration with our customers installed infrastructure while providing the flexibility to expand, improve and scale their business processes without incurring high costs.” The Omnitrol Networks' award-winning track and trace appliance solution integrates with all the sensors, RFID readers, mobile handhelds and equipment on the shop floor to provide real-time visibility on asset, processes, inventory, QA activities, shipping and receiving status.
